At Taste, the only thing we love more than discovering
cheese is sharing our discoveries with friends. That's why we created Cheese101@TASTE,
a series of small, focused classes we offer covering everything from cheese
basics to region and beverage specific cheese pairings. Classes are casual and designed
for novice and experienced cheese aficionados alike. Most sessions are taught by
our favorite cheese monger George Palmer, and held in Wine Steals' cozy event space
adjoining Taste.
To encourage student interaction and lively discussion in our classes, we keep
class sizes small and once a class fills, a waiting list is formed. After
each class concludes, Taste reopens exclusively for our students who receive a discount
off all purchases made that evening. Students also receive discounts from Wine
Steals on wines used in certain classes. Whatever the topic, Cheese101@TASTE is always a fun, informative and flavorful
experience!

We’re excited to
launch a new series of events at Taste, each featuring wine, cheese and a
movie. Each month we’ll serve up one of our favorite food-centric movies
(loosely defined), which we’ll pair with wines and cheeses from the region or
cuisine featured in the movie. If you’re looking for a fun diversion to start
the week, plan to join us!
“The
Dinner Game” $30
Monday, 8/18
6:30pm
We kick off the
series with this hilarious French film that despite its title has little to do
with food. We’ll be sure to make up for it with some tasty French wines and
cheeses to enjoy while we watch (and read the subtitles). For more on the film,
here’s a synopsis from Fandango.com …
Francis Veber wrote and
directed this film adaptation of his own play, Le diner de cons, about a
competition among a group of friends to see who can find the stupidest person to
bring to dinner. The dinners are held each Wednesday night, and French publisher
Pierre Brochant (Thierry Lhermitte) has found a world class nincompoop --
Finance Ministry accountant Francois Pignon (Jacques Villeret) who uses
matchsticks to build small-scale replicas of monuments. Things quickly go awry
after Pierre wrenches his back at golf. He nevertheless makes an effort to
attend the dinner with his prize dunce. Francois arrives at Pierre's luxury
apartment, but Pierre is in such pain they never exit the apartment for the
dinner. Instead, Pierre is trapped in a situation where Francois' stupidity
turns his life into a comic hell.
“Big
Night” $30
Monday, 9/15
6:30pm
This month we head
to Italy (by way of New Jersey) for one of our favorite ‘foodie’ movies. While
we watch the creation of the Italian feast on screen, we’ll enjoy Italian wines
and cheeses. For more on this film, here’s a synopsis from imdb.com …
Primo and Secondo are two brothers who have emigrated from Italy to open an
Italian restaurant in America. Primo is the irascible and gifted chef, brilliant
in his culinary genius, but determined not to squander his talent on making the
routine dishes that customers expect. Secondo is the smooth front-man, trying to
keep the restaurant financially afloat, despite few patrons other than a poor
artist who pays with his paintings. The owner of the nearby Pascal's restaurant,
enormously successful (despite its mediocre fare), offers a solution - he will
call his friend, a big-time jazz musician, to play a special benefit at their
restaurant. Primo begins to prepare his masterpiece, a feast of a lifetime, for
the brothers' big night...
